The blockchain space has a heart too.
The Tron Foundation announced on Feb. 11 via a blog post that it is joining the ALS Association for #VoiceYourLove campaign aimed at finding treatments and a cure for people living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which is also referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Tron, one of the largest blockchain protocols for building decentralized applications (Dapps) has a history of supporting good social causes.
Tron Founder Justin Sun Donates $250,000 Towards the #VoiceYourLove Awareness Campaign
Tron’s founder and CEO, Justin Sun, who says that he is “proud to be working with ALS Association to raise money and awareness for a terrible disease,” has donated $250,000 towards the cause.
He also urges other stakeholders in the crypto industry to help find a cure for the disease by donating to the cause.
“The TRON and BitTorrent community [has] over 100 million people, and it’s statistically possible that thousands of you are afflicted with ALS. In your honor, I’m donating $250,000 and urging others in the blockchain industry to voice their love by donating to help find a cure.”
Those who wish to contribute to the awareness campaign can visit voiceyourlove.org, the official campaign website.

The #VoiceYourLove campaign challenges people to use their smart mobile devices to create videos about people that meant a lot to them – be it family, friends, workmates, or strangers.
It is all about expressing how meaningful those people were in someone else’s life.
ALS, also known as motor neuron disease (MND) is a degenerative disease that kills neurons in vital organs such as the brain and spinal cord.
People affected with ALS eventually lose the ability to do basic things such as walking, using their hands, swallowing, speaking, and breathing.
The cause for the disease remains unknown, and those diagnosed with the terrible disease are likely to survive for two to five years after diagnosis.
Stephen Hawking, a well-known British theoretical physicist, was diagnosed with MND at the age of 23 but lived with the condition for over 50 years.
Using Blockchain Technology for Transparency in Charitable Giving
Tron is planning to use distributed ledger technology (DLT) to improve transparency by keeping a record of the donations received and the charitable organizations that benefit from them.
The blockchain firm will release the information about the donations at the end of the campaign.
Binance, a cryptocurrency exchange also pledged $150,000 to the cause through its charitable arm, Binance Charity Foundation.
The Foundation also calls upon other interested parties to donate with digital assets – Bitcoin, Ether, and Binance Coin – through www.binance.charity, a blockchain-powered donation platform.
Tron and Binance are steadily becoming the blockchain faces for social causes.
The two crypto firms donated $100,000 in cryptocurrencies to a charity in Malta in December last year.
