Doncaster 1.50 – Blue de Vega
He’s been a bit below par on very soft ground lately but, as a result, he’s only a pound or two higher than when winning really impressively at Ascot in July. This surface and intermediate distance should suit perfectly and the booking of Dettori is obviously pretty eye catching.
Doncaster 2.25 – Dutch Connection
This season has been frustrating, but I don’t think Dutch Connection is a busted flush just yet. He ran pretty well from a horrid draw at Goodwood and would have a massive chance here on his run in the Lockinge. The trainer’s horses are enjoying their customary early autumn hot streak.
Doncaster 3.00 – Dark Vision
I think Too Darn Hot is a real one, but also believe that the disparity in price is too big here. While Dark Vision won a modest edition of the Vintage, he still won with great authority given his shocking trip through the race. I am minded to think that he’ll be better on this track/ground and could at least give the favourite a fright. In which case, he’s worth a small play at the odds.
Doncaster 3.35 – Lah Ti Dar / Dee Ex Bee (each way)
Those who listened to the racehour podcast know that I think Lah Ti Dar will win this well. For those who prefer a bigger price, consider Dee Ex Bee each way or in a forecast with the favourite. He’s had a break since his last run, has ground that he won’t hate for the first time since Epsom, and looks certain to thrive for a thorough test of galloping.
Leopardstown 6.35 – Saxon Warrior
I may be blowing against thunder thinking Saxon Warrior can beat Roaring Lion, but…. the selection was entitled to need his run at York after sickness while Roaring Lion was clearly at his peak in a tactical affair on a track that he loves. If the Eclipse is a fairer reflection of their relative merits, then Saxon Warrior is worth a play on his home turf.
